I founded the consulting firm Spies & Associates in 1990. I am accomplished in business process reëngineering, managing technology, and organizational change. Prior to forming the firm, I led MusicMaster, the marketing, advertising, and music agency, for nine years.
I teach in the MBA programs at the Hagan School of Business of Iona College and the Mountbatten Internship Programme. I have conducted research in strategy, managing the high-IQ worker, and technology issues. My current focus is on distance learning through large-scale, synchronous, Web-based simulations. He has created and presented hundreds of seminars and short-courses for Yale University, AACSB International, the Connecticut State Library, NYU, and many other organizations. I have authored over 30 books and numerous articles on management and technology.
I have served on boards of directors as diverse as Children’s Services of Central Iowa, F&SUMC, American Artists Management, and American Mensa, Ltd., for which I served as the National Publications Officer. I edited M-Pressions for two years.
I have studied at Fudan University in Shanghai, and Temple University in Tokyo. Currently I am ABD at the International School of Management, in Paris. I received an MPPM/MBA from the Yale School of Management, where my emphasis was Managing Change and Innovation. I received a BBA in Corporate Finance from Iowa State University; it was the least they could do.
